Position Title:             Director of IT

Reports to:                 Chief Operating Officer

Location:                       San Francisco

Position Summary:

The Director of IT will help define and articulate the overall technology strategy while managing day-to-day IT Operations in the areas of network, server, storage, data communications, telecommunications, data center, desktop support staff and 24x7 monitoring of production applications and systems. Success in this role will demand strong program and project management experience, an ability to work well with key stakeholders and ability to drive results that meet or exceed business objectives and timelines during the company’s rapid growth.


Essential Job Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

  • Provides technical support; collaborates on, and implements technology projects.
  • Drives for results, meeting business needs by managing multiple priorities including initiating and advancing projects with vendors, internal support teams and retail stores.
  • Assists the business in the development of retail store and ecommerce strategies for improving customer engagement and experience throughout all business channels.
  • Oversees negotiation of vendor and consultant contracts while monitoring delivery of targets and service level agreements.
  • Conduct strategic analysis and build recommendations for change.
  • Mentors, trains and sets professional development of team members. 
  • Applies financial ability to administer budget management, effectively balancing cost-savings with delivering quality results.  Manages purchasing and delivery of equipment and applications on time and within budget. 
  • Fiscal responsibility for departmental budget and ROI analysis as needed on new and existing services
  • Manages all IT purchasing in alignment with approved budget.
  • Maintains 99.9% uptime with Point of Sale systems, corporate servers, network infrastructure, inventory, accounting, reporting, e-mail and other systems.
  • Monitors help desk tracking system status and handles escalations to ensure compliance with established Service Level Agreements.
  • Manages and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Create and implement policies, procedures and standards relating to information and telecommunication systems.
  • Enhances disaster recovery planning, training and documentation.
  • Responsible for researching and evaluating new technologies.

Technical Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 3-7 years of management experience managing in an IT department 
  • Experience managing multiple environments (DEV, TEST, UAT and PROD) 
  • Experience with SAN or storage management, backups, network, telecom, VOIP and security administration including PCI compliance 
  • Experience administering and maintaining POS technologies and software; bonus points for experience with Island Pacific Store
  • Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and 2005, Active Directory, SQL Server, and data warehouse
  • Experience administering IBM AS400, Microsoft Server 2008
  • Experience in a multi-location retail organization
